Eddie Aikau's amazing story, for kids of all ages!5
With Eddie 'Wen Go, author Marion Lyman-Mersereau and illustrator Melissa Desica have developed a story that is sure to become a Hawaiian classic, given to nieces and nephews, sons and daughters, keiki all, for the next century. The truth and legend of North Shore big wave lifeguard and surfer Eddie Aikau, and his heroism and fate after the Hokulea capsized, is simply an unbelievable story. But it is true! After the Hokulea capsized, Eddie volunteered twice to swim for help. The first time, the captain anticipated rescue, and wanted to keep the crew together. The second time, land growing more distant, crew members ill, Eddie got permission to make the attempt.

He was never heard from again.

The rest of the crew was rescued, and the saying "Eddie would go" became established as THE standard of commitment and dedication.

Author and Hokulea crew member Lyman-Mersereau looks to her imagination and her hopes, and dreams about what happened that night, and what happened to Eddie, through the eyes of sea creatures.

It will put tears in your eyes, and you may never be able to hear "Eddie would go" without thinking of this story. It is fitting that Lyman-Mersereau and Desica chose the humpback whale for Eddie's companion in those final hours, given that 10,000 humpback whales may visit Hawaiian waters every year.

Recommended for all ages.
