Good remote
The remote is pretty much necessary with a couple flaws. This remote should be included with the PS3 or at the very least an IR port should be on the PS3 to allow using a universal remote. This seems a stupid place to cost cut. I also really hate that there is no power button to turn off the PS3 remote. Yes, you can navigate the menu and shut down, but that is really poor design. On the same line, the PS3 should power down if not used for some time period, but that is more of a PS3 flaw than a flaw of this remote. Otherwise the buttons are small and hard to read, but the remote is still pretty necessary and useful.

Useful
If you plan to watch DVDs with your PS3, this remote comes in handy. As others have noted, it does not have a power on/off button and the buttons are difficult to see in low light conditions so I cannot give it 5 stars. However it is much better than using the dualshock controller for viewing DVDs which requires a few steps of button pushing just to pause, rewind or do other functions.
