These lights are safer than conventional AC powered lights and do not create much heat, so they won't dry out your tree before its time as regular holiday lights do! These white lights operate from a long-lasting, pre-installed, 1.2 V rechargeable AA battery. The lights stretch approximately 19 1/2 feet, and there is an additional 6 feet of cable, so the entire string is about 25 1/2 feet. PLEASE NOTE - in regards to our shipping charges - Amazon automatically lists a shipping rate of four forty nine per item and then fifty cents per lb. so the only way to get the system to reflect the actual shipping (NON-BOOK) rate is to increase the weight (we were told to do this by an amazon employee). Please feel free to check the USPS shipping rates to veryify that we are giving you the lowest rates! We do not charge for handling. Great and green!
Okay they cost more than the traditional christmas lights, but the whole solar powered thing is fantastic! Plus the little LEDs are bright and look great and are pretty hardy and can take a beating. I bought one string to check them out and then bought two more... plus the snowflake kind :)

Good green alternative, not perfect
Love that they are solar and that part works seamlessly. They are really small, both the lights and the whole strand, so multiple needed for one of our trees outside.

Buy them for what they are.
I bought this lights to light up a gazebo I have in my backyard. As a light source these are simply inadequate. They are very blue and very dim.

As decoration, though, they are just fantastic. Because of their bluish color and their dimness, they look like distant stars or fireflies. I ordered 5 more strands to cover the gazebo with them and create a starry night effect with them.

As solar lamps they are very efficient. I have other lamps that barely last until midnight before they are depleted and dim out. These last all the way to sunrise, even after a full day of rains.

My only complain is that the solar panel is a bit awkward to place if you are not using the ground stake. I took a bit of putty to perch on top of the gazebo.

All in all, a very good purchase if what you want are decorative lights and not a light to read by.
