Great music, Poor selection
For what could very well be the last soundtrack of the series, Volume 6 boasts some of the best music Joseph LoDuca has ever done, yet it also suffers from poor selection. Some of the tracks are obvious necessities (the Emmy-winning score from Fallen Angel comes to mind) but others, including just about every song from track 17 to 30 on the second disk, are not. Yes, the country-style music from the comedy episodes is quirky and fun to listen to, but I can't help thinking, every time I get to disk 2, what's still missing:

Ides of March-the vocal from the ending crucifixion scene seems to have been left out. All the music around it, however, is found in the track "Way of Pain."

God Fearing Child-the sad cue that plays when Hera is left alone to face Zeus (probably one of the most memorable scenes in the entire series). This plays again in the Season 5 finale, Motherhood.

Motherhood-all the new tracks. How they could have left this off the CD and inserted country music, and songs we've heard before on previous albums, is beyond me. Three songs come to mind-the battle music between Xena and the gods (which is actually used quite frequently), and the two spectacular pieces during and after the final battle with Athena. These two songs match the most famous track from Fallen Angel, "Go to Them," for sheer drama and emotion and their absence is definitely a drawback.

Livia-the battle music between Eve and Xena.

The Debt-this will be possibly the greatest mystery of all. In Volume Four, the beginning half of Xena's "execution" music was left in, but the second half was omitted. The track's name even made note of it-"Execution, Part 1." This battle music (with a grand flourish in the middle) is used four times in the series-whenever a dramatic fight scene in China occurs. Why it was omitted from Volume Four is a question, why it's not in Volume Six is another.

Sacrifice-I nearly forgot this one. This is music that has not been released for three seasons and best of all, it's music that hasn't been recycled (as so many other tracks have been). If there were ever an opportunity to release it, it would be now, but like the above and others (Najara's themes, Adventures in the Sin Trade, etc.) it's nowhere to be found.

The music is indeed spectacular and this CD is a recommended buy, but chances are, if you're a series veteran, you'll be missing all those tracks which were tragically omitted from this volume.

Excellent, but still missing great songs.
This is a must have for any and all Xena fans. Ides of March and Fallen Angel is some of Lo Duca's best music. However, this doesn't include many of the songs that "die hard" fans were looking for. It is missing the song that MiLila sang on Destiny and some of the indigenous religious type songs used in the episodes with Eli. It's also missing the music from "The Conqueror" with Najara. So what happened? We don't know. And they added "Joxer the Mighty" and the main theme. Why? They are on the first 2 CDs. I wonder if they are going to come out with another CD; Xena - the lost songs. In the meantime, I guess we'll just have to settle for what we have on 6 CDs and tape the rest directly from video.

Grand Ending
It seems to me that Xena Vol. 6 was the best of the collection. As the series end piece, it has a fantastic assortment of music, mood settings, and exciting scene lead-ins. I have listened to it a number of times, and still enjoy it greatly. In some ways, it seems to sum up the entire six years of the series. Amazing!
