Solid textbook
The New Practical Chinese Reader series takes extensive CSL research conducted at Beijing Language and Culture University and interprets into a compact, well-designed text that's suitable for University level classes, but may be to sophisticated for the high school level. Each lesson includes detailed grammatical analysis and useful tips for reading and writing Chinese. Overall a solid beginner's textbook.

Those CDs are a must-have to those studying Chinese, a perfect companion to the "New Practical Chinese Reader Textbook Vol. 1". Whether you try a self-studying system or attend class lessons with a teacher, you will definitely be greatly helped by listening to the book dialogues and then to independent words such as the basic or "root" words. As you move forward from one lesson to the next, the dialogues go faster and faster till you get to speak in the same pace as a Chinese will do.

I have to say that listening to the CDs at home after my class lessons has helped me more than anything else.

Very good set of CDs
High quality CDs. About the books: Although the topis are based on situations for university students, the book covers the 4 main skills (writing, reading, speaking and listening) in a very good way. The authors should include colorful photos in order to offer a more attractive material though.
