When Kipling was hot. Fantastic 1937 movie on the novel. Not entirely respectful of Kipling's thematics but none the less entertaining.

One of John Houston's best movies. Respectful of Kipling's novella, it focuses specifically on the friendship between Dravot and Carnehan and on Kipling's masonic ideals.

When Kipling was hot. Inspired by Kipling's poem, a classical, Hollywood Raj movie. Today, politically incorrect, depicts the childlike loyalty and surpassing bravery of a native water carrier for the British army in India.
The Jungle BookThe Jungle Book
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $2.69
Classical(1942) interpretation mainly of two JB stories, dealing with Mowgli and men and the village. The meaning of the JB is there, but the plot is transformed to make the story attractive for all audiences of those times. Must be seen, Sabu at his best.

Mowgli and the Beasts. The golden standard of the modern childhood vision of Kipling Hollywood has given to the world. I like to think that music takes the place of the poems between the chapters of the book. I think Kipling would have approved of this version. "A bear necessity" is one of the catchiest songs I remember from my childhood.
The Jungle Book 2The Jungle Book 2
Buy used from: $2.56
The Disney sequel, the characters are perfect, the story is only a romp in the Jungle, but its entertaining non the less. "A bear necessity" is still here.
Jungle Book: Mowgli's StoryJungle Book: Mowgli's Story
Buy used from: $0.01
Modern 1998 adaptation of the First Jungle Book. Features talking animals and a modern dialogue. Some wolves turn against Mowgli, Bagheera is a female, Kaa is missing and poor Kipling is turning around in his grave. Maybe entertaining for very young children...
Rikki Tikki Tavi/Yankee Doodle CricketRikki Tikki Tavi/Yankee Doodle Cricket

The original story can be found in the Second Jungle Book. Unfortunately all children illustrated versions are either abridged or the language has been simplified. This animation is beautiful and scarry. Very true to the original story, read by Orson Wells.

More modern and attinent version of the book. I wonder why they couldn't choose a real tibetan lama. O'Toole's lama is at the most peculiar.

A novel of failure, the heroes, all the characters, the British Empire. A movie was made from this novel that is not on the commercial circuit "The Light that Failed" (1939), director William Wellman.

Wee Willie WinkieWee Willie Winkie

John Ford and Shirley Temple contributed to make this beautiful movie. Wee Willie Winkie is losely inspired by Kipling's novel, the hero is actually a little girl but Kipling's flavour is present throughout.
