Customer Reviews

At Last!!! Wunmi releases her first full length album -- A.L.A.! 5
Wunmi's un-mistakeable voice and dynamic personality has graced many incredible dance tracks over the past few years....... performing on releases by Masters At Work, Bugz in the Attic, Osunlade, Truby Trio, King Britt, PastaBoys, D'Stephanie, RAS, DJ Rogall, Varano, and even the great Roy Ayers.. not to mention that she's also a talented dancer who's been rockin' it since as far back as Soul II Soul's classic album Keep on Movin' (she was a featured dancer in one of their classic videos) Now, she releases her first full length CD - ALA - an acronymn which stands for "African Living Abroad". ALA is an afro-electric-house music masterpiece.... the beats are irresistable.. ("before you realize it..you'll be a dancing fool!") and the lyrical content is rich and diverse... many of these songs are deeply personal ("Woman Child" is a beautiful introspective track which speaks of female conciousness, birth, and re-birth; and "Illegal Alien" is one that really gets you thinking about what it's like to live as a fugitive in this world of borders and barbed wire, and the importance of having a place to call home..) All of these tracks have a universal message... (includes a cover of the Police's classic "Message in a Bottle")
We are all on a journey.. anyone who has ever left "home" searching for inspiration, meaning, a better life or a new direction will definitely relate to this album.. The title, ALA, also addresses the African diaspora, and how many African people today bridge the gap between seemingly different worlds and cultures in their own personal way... Wunmi grew up in Nigeria and London, and now resides, at least, most of the time, in Brooklyn.
This album is full of Wunmi's own unique perspective and sense of humor...("Good foot charlie", "Left to Right" are two tracks that are bound to make you smile and want to dance)
A.L.A. also really flows from track to track giving you a good sense of the many styles this superb artist has to offer... if you ever get a chance to see her perform live, dont miss out!! Wunmi is a top notch, A1 class, dynamite performer... get this CD NOW and be glad you did... this aint no "crossover commercialism".. this is the one and only Wunmi!!!
