Refreshingly positive perspective on menstruation4
"Red Flower" provides a refreshingly positive perspective on menstruation. Countering the barrage of negativity women recieve about PMS, this book emphasizes the positive aspects of periods. Menstruation symbolizes fertility, femininity, and power. PMS is neither universal nor always negative. It is possible - and ideal - for women to celebrate their bodies at this time rather than hide from the reality of monthly cycles.

The main flaw with this book is that some of the science is outdated due to the date of publication. Also, I wish there was more detail on some of the cultural history related to menstruation. However, "Red Flower" was not written to be a comprehensive guide to female cycles. It is a celebration of womens bodies as we were meant to experience it. For that, the book is invaluable.
