Product Description

Kinky, curly, or wavy hair isn’t “problem” hair—it’s just hair with a different set of rules!

For too long, hairstylists and hair-care companies have ignored the needs of women with kinky, curly, or wavy hair, focusing on it as “problem” hair rather than celebrating its unique texture. But now hair-care and style expert A. Dickey, considered by top magazine beauty editors to be the foremost authority on caring for, cutting, and styling curly hair, has written Hair Rules! to end the frustration faced by women with curly hair every day.
Hair Rules! is chock-full of simple tips for all types of curly hair and covers everything from the best shampoos and conditioners to use, to damage-free hair-drying (dust off that hood dryer!), the use of natural oils, and the safest coloring, styling, and chemical relaxing techniques—as well as guidelines for maintaining healthy, gorgeous hair.
“My mission,” writes Dickey, “is simple: to advise and encourage all women with nonstraight hair to strive to attain their beauty, whatever their ethnicity, and whatever their tastes.”

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU5
Believe me when I tell you that this is a good book and a must have for the kinky, curly, wavy haired girls. It is written in plain English so you don't have to be knowledgeable about or licensed in hair or hair care in order to benefit from it. I read the first 52 pages in one sitting and wanted to keep reading. Mr. Dickey did a great job explaining about our hair. He also talks about relaxers and what they do to the hair. He encourages women to embrace and care for their unique textures. I like how he simultaneously entertains and educates in this book. I learned a few tips/tricks of the trade. [...] But for once a stylist is NOT afraid to give out secrets of the industry. Dickey recognizes and talks about the beauty of kinky, curly, and wavy hair. At one point he even wrote that his colleagues would do well to recognize the beauty of our texture as well. Finally a book that is written by a stylist who will tell you, GIRL LEAVE THAT RELAXER ALONE and let me beautify your kinks and curls. I give his book a big fat 5 stars.
Free your MIND and your hair will follow!!

Hair Issues Untangled5
This brief, simple book provides an excellent practical guide to pampering African-American hair, or any ethnic hair that glories in its curls. I found that the suggestions about daily rinsing, generous use of conditioners, and nightly braiding have helped my hair looks glossy, curly, fresh, and happy. Use of all-natural products from Carol's Daughter also makes a world of difference.

Hair Rules is good if you know absolutely nothing about taking care of your curly or kinky hair. Dickey excels at giving general advice and information about products and simple maintenance, but if you're looking for detailed instructions on how to style your hair at home, this is NOT the book for you. Dickey refuses to recommend any specific products (not even brands), so this book is even less useful than, say, a monthly women's magazine such as Essence or Shape. Also, the photos are mostly black and white, and lack any kind of detailed captions and close-ups that would help readers replicate these styles at home. Borrow it from the library or buy it used.
