Customer Reviews
horrible computer & customer service
I have owned many Dell computers over the last 20 years and have been quite satisfied with their quality and reliability. However my last purchase of an Inspiron 1525 laptop has been a nightmare both in terms of quality and customer service.
I purchased this computer direct from Dell at the end of May 2008 and by end of November 2008 it was dead. I called Dell customer service and we walked through some attempted fixes without success. They arranged for a contracted service tech to come to my home and replace motherboard, hard disk, memory chips. He installed and left saying that he wasn't paid to get the computer up and running. This same scenario repeated two more times with the same parts and other service techs and still the computer wasn't booting up. This was near the end of January 2009 and I had been 2 months without a working computer.
I finally convinced customer service to send me a new computer. The first one had inferior specs to the system I previously had and so they had to send another. By early February 2009 I had the right model up and running. On July 13 2009 this Inspiron 1525 died. Same issue as before, no hard disk present so no boot up. Again about 6 months of use and it died.
I followed the online procedures for my error code and reseated the hard disk twice and still nothing. Dell customer service refused to help as they say my one year warranty is up even though I've had 2 dead computers each within 6 months. They said I need a new hard drive, which I need to purchase and install myself. This is not what I expect from a supposedly reputable company after paying $1000.00 for a computer.
I use this computer only at home, sitting at my desk. It doesn't travel or get misused in any way so I have to assume this is a known defect with this model. A co-worker has this same model and had the same error code after 6 months of use.
I will never buy another Dell computer and if you're smart you won't buy one either.
