Good Supplement
I am a 4th grade Special Education Teacher. This book is very good for review fo skills. I like the way it builds the upon skill throughout the week. On Friday their is a test on the skills taught during the week. I use it as a beginning of class activity. The students know when they come to class to get out their folders and start on the days Read 4 Today lesson. It is challenging for my students, but they are learning.
Great for reviewing skills
I have only used this book for a week but I already love it! It helps review some of those reading skills that students struggle with on tests. However, it is not just test prep. My class has been able to have discussions about the readings.
My suggestions for improvement for this book:
*have the weekly assessment focus on the same skills as the week's practice (like in Math4Today).
*Less focus on phonic skills- maybe it's just not tested in my state at 4th thoough
*Use some of the same testing vocabulary. For example, use the word synonym sometimes.
Overall, it is a great book to have a spiral review of skills.
